HKU team says Asian bats likely ‘original host’ of virus
The novel coronavirus is likely to have come from bats, according to the latest study by the HKU.
Microbiologists at HKU created a group of cells that resembled the intestine of the Chinese horseshoe bat and successfully infected it with the coronavirus, known as Sars-CoV-2. Findings suggest that the Chinese horseshoe bat may be the original host of this SARS-CoV-2.
Meanwhile, researchers also found that coronavirus replicate quickly in cells generated from the small intestine, known as enteroids. The human intestinal tract might be a transmission route of SARS-CoV-2.
