Highlights:

• 70% of coronavirus cases in Hong Kong did not transmit infection to anyone else

• 20% of cases in Hong Kong were responsible for 80% of transmission events

• Masks help but are insufficient to stop transmission

• Strategies to reduce virus transmission: improve testing in primary care, scale up contact tracing capacity, test and isolate cases, encourage physical distancing and general preventive measures in the community
