Prof Yuen Kwok-yung warns possible surge in imported Covid-19 cases as Hongkongers return from Australia and New Zealand over summer

Imported cases may spike over the summer as Hong Kong residents, including students return from Australia and New Zealand, warns Professor Yuen Kwok-yung of the University of Hong Kong. In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Yuen said that winter temperatures during the winter in the southern hemisphere could help the spread of the coronavirus, but those infected might be harder to detect when they arrived in warmer Hong Kong.

In anticipation of a rise in imported cases, Yuen said Hong Kong could require all arriving travellers undergo a Covid-19 test at least five days before departure.
