HKU initiative helps bridge digital divide among secondary school students

In July and August, The University of Hong Kong conducted the #TeachforGood programme, which offered online tutorials to grass root students. Supported by the HKU COVID Relief Fund, the programme recruited 27 HKU graduating students who held nearly 100 online classes for students from 27 secondary schools. The programme also donated IPads and data SIM cards to 16 schools to facilitate students’ online learning.

The programme seeks to bridge the digital divide among students.

In the second phase of the initiative, 100 iPads and data SIM cards will be donated to the Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic of the HKU Faculty of Education to help low-income patients attend online video speech therapy sessions at the Clinic.  The programme will also provide 150 students in the therapy major with internship opportunities.
