HKU expert warns of rising transmission rate

Professor Gabriel Leung, dean of HKU’s faculty of medicine said in a press conference on Monday that the Covid-19 real time effective reproductive number stands to rise again to about one, after dropping to around 0.6.

Leung said Octopus card traffic data shows that citizens had gone out more than in previous weeks, giving rise to the potential increase of the Covid-19 transmission rate.

“Now is definitely not the time to consider lifting any measures, we are at a critical stage and must hold our nerve for at least two more weeks,” he warned.
